Released on 19 September 2012

View more about our social media accountsSurrey Heath Borough Council will be tweeting throughout the day on Thursday 27 September to give residents an insight into a day in the life of their local authority.

Entitled, #OurDay, the online event is part of Social Media Week and has been organised by the Local Government Association (LGA), with councils taking part up and down the country.

The #OurDay strand of the week will involve local councils tweeting information about their services and sharing with residents, their Twitter followers and those following the trend around the world.

By searching for the hashtag #OurDay on Twitter, people will be able to find out more about the work councils do over a period of 24 hours.

Many different council services will be in taking part including environmental health, Surrey Heath Museum, Camberley Theatre and community wardens. This will give followers of Surrey Heath's Twitter profile a chance to get an insight into the day to day work by staff involved in delivering these services.

Cllr Liane Gibson, Corporate portfolio holder said: "Surrey Heath's Twitter page is already a great source of information, news and updates, with new tweets being sent daily featuring the latest campaigns and events in the borough. I hope that the #OurDay tweetathon will encourage more people to use and interact with the council's social media."

Over 850 people already follow the council's Twitter page and it gets new followers every week. Those on Twitter should follow @surreyheath Opens in a new window for the latest tweets and updates from the council.
