Parks and Countryside "Greenspace"
Sponsorship Opportunity
Walks and countryside events
The Cultural & Commercial Service manages more than 254 hectares (630 acres) of open space.
Up to half of this is open heathland -
a threatened habitat that is now protected by European habitat designation. The remaining greenspace offers numerous opportunities for sport and recreation including play areas, sports pitches, tennis courts and bowling greens. Sponsorship of greenspace events reaches a wide cross section of the borough residents, and with a plan to roll out more events over the coming years, our parks and countryside areas will become an important place for companies and organisations to raise their profile.
Key greenspace sites within the borough:
- Frimley Lodge Park, Sturt Road, Mytchett
This Green Flag award winning park is 24 hectares of open space offering formal sports facilities in a rural setting with woodland, meadows, canalside walks and even a miniature railway. There is also a pitch & putt course and cafe. - Lightwater Country Park, The Avenue, Lightwater
Consisting mainly of heathland, pine and birch woodland, this 59-hectare park is the perfect place to get away from it all. There are waymarked walks, nature trails and a trim trail (or fitness trail) and the view from High Curley is well worth the walk. Nature enthusiasts will love the wealth of wildlife supported by the park and for a more serious study, you can visit the Heathland Visitors' Centre. Football, cricket and rugby facilities are provided by Lightwater Playing Field Association, which also manages the leisure centre within the park.
