Open Space in Surrey Heath

Behind the Civic offices and Camberley library. A new park created as part of a housing development. A unique feature is the ruined Obelisk Tower situated on a hill overlooking Camberley. There is also a small children's playground.

Surrey Heath's oldest park opened in 1898. The town park is adjacent to the Arena Leisure Centre. In addition to football, cricket, bowling (Camberley Bowls Club) and tennis, there is a small ornamental garden and a children's play area.

An area of open space alongside the River Blackwater with picnic areas, trim trail and you may see a kingfisher or two.

olddean4. Old Dean Recreation Ground, Bracknell Road, Camberley, GU15 4BD
An open space in the middle of the Old Dean Estate with a very popular adventure play area and BMX / roller skating track. Two soccer pitches are provided. Home to the Old Dean Bowls Club.

Two sites, which are linked by a footbridge over the railway. Crabtree provides informal recreation opportunities including trim trail and skate ramp, while Watchmoor Reserve has been landscaped to encourage wildlife. There is also a small outdoor classroom area with wooden sculptures, lakes and walks.

Home of the Camberley Rugby Football Club, Frimley Lawn Tennis Club and Watchetts Bowling Club, this park also provides cricket, putting, casual tennis and soccer. There is also a children's play area.

southcotepark7. Southcote Park, Portsmouth Road, Camberley GU15 2TA
A small open space which is the home of the Camberley Tennis Club. At present there is a small arboretum and a tree list may be obtained from Arts & Leisure. Telephone 01276 707338. This park is being extended providing a dog free area with children's play, naturalised bulbs, trees and conservation areas.

Another small park which provides two football pitches, a cricket square and a children's playground.

Watchetts & Tomlins lakes provide four very pleasant water features, where you can stroll, watch the birds or just sit and enjoy the water. No fishing please.

An open space, offering 3 soccer pitches and children's play area. There is also a lovely avenue of Redwood trees.

A large park, dominated by a grassy hill, offering extensive views over Surrey and Hampshire. There is also a children's play area, five football pitches, a cricket pitch and two tennis courts. An area of natural vegetation has been preserved, where foxes or and other wildlife may be seen.

17. Frimley Lodge Park, Sturt Road, Mytchett GU16 6HY
Surrey Heath's Jewel in the Crown - a Green Flag park. 24 hectares of open space with a combination of formal sports provision in a rural setting with woodland, meadows, canal side walks and even a miniature railway. There is a pitch and putt course and a cafeteria. The site is looked after by the Park Warden who can be contacted on 01252 836970.

A small park offering children's play area, bowling (Mytchett Bowls Club) and tennis, skate ramp with a grass kickabout area and rose beds.

One of the Council's latest open spaces with open grass areas, bowling green (West End Bowls Club) and a basket ball goal. A small play ground is provided by West End Parish Council.

turfhill20. Turfhill Park, Red Road, Lightwater
A natural area of heathland and pine woods managed by this Council in recognition of the valuable and rare habitat created by heathland. Provides opportunities for walking, nature study and picnics. An S.S.S.I.

21. Lightwater Country Park, The Avenue, Lightwater GU18 5RG

58 hectares of natural beauty consisting of mainly heathland with pine and birch woodland, much of the park is S.S.S.I. There are way marked walks, a nature trail and a trim trail. The view from High Curley is well worth the climb. Three ponds support a wealth of wildlife. Guided walks and talks can be arranged. Football, cricket and rugby are provided by Lightwater Playing Field Association who also manage the comprehensive Leisure Centre within the park. Tel 01276 472662. The Heathland Visitor Centre is available for groups and events.

22. Chobham Place Woods, Off Windsor Road, (B383) GU24 8TN
A mature broadleaf wood which once belonged to Chobham Place House lying to the south. This area and Round Pond to the east are on the edge of Chobham Common. The wood provides pleasant woodland walks and it is proposed to improve access for disabled visitors and partially restore the original historical landscape.

23. Wellington Park, Clarence Drive, Portsmouth Road, GU15 1JT
Some large open areas within this new housing estate with 2 small playgrounds.
