What is the Visitor Centre?
The Visitor Centre is a base for continual education of the public with regards to conservation, nature and wildlife. This is done by a variety of activities - all fun!
Enjoy a variety of sensory displays that tell the Heathland Story.
We have a dedicated Greenspace team delivering the highest quality parks, countryside and play areas for the residents of Surrey Heath and beyond to use and enjoy throughout the year. Behind the scenes our team is managing and monitoring 254 hectares. Our team can be seen out and about in our Greenspace vehicles. If you would like to contact them, please contact 01276 707166 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Conservation and Volunteering
The area of heathland within the Country Park has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
What does this mean?
The Country Park is therefore an area of high nature conservation value. This due to the rarity of this type of habitat against damaging operations or development. For more information on SSSI please go to www.english-nature.org.uk/special/sssi/
The Lightwater Country Park will be launching its Conservation Season as of October. This will be followed by the Conservation programme through the winter.
During the months of October through to February the Rangers will be running weekly conservation tasks, usually on Thursdays. The priority for these task days will be clearance of invading birch and pine scrub from heathland areas, though there may be additional one-off projects such as fence and stile building and path improvements. In addition to public involvement, the Greensapce Team will also be assisted during the conservation period by work experience students from schools and colleges from throughout Surrey. If you are interested in wildlife or just crave fresh air and exercise and have some spare time, why not come along and help the Greenspace Team with this vital conservation work?
Contact Gordon Voller or Peter Maynard on 01276 707166 or email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
