The first Surrey Heath Sports Awards were held on Monday evening (July 14) to recognise those who have made an outstanding contribution to sport in the borough.

Local clubs, coaches, schools, National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and the sports council had been asked to nominate people, schools and clubs for recognition. The ceremony, held at the Camberley Theatre and attended by hundreds of players, coaches and volunteers from across the borough, was a memorable evening enjoyed by everyone present.

Among the attendees was portfolio holder for arts and leisure, Councillor Wynne Price. He said: "These awards are a very positive reflection of the hard work and dedication that takes place in Surrey Heath in pursuit of sporting excellence. Everyone nominated tonight should feel very proud of their achievements and motivated to strive further.

"I would also like to congratulate the winners - they are all a credit to our communities and I wish them every success with their sporting exploits in the future."

Surrey Heath Borough Council would also like to thank sponsors Up and Running, Surrey Heath Sports Council, North West Surrey School Sports Partnership, The Arena Leisure Centre, Blue Box Storage and Moorpark Properties Limited without the awards would not have been possible.
