Young athletes from across Surrey Heath enjoyed success as well as the sunshine and healthy competition at the weekend (June 21 and 22) as the 12th Surrey Youth Games got underway in Guildford.
Teams of sporting youngsters from ages seven to 14 and representing all 11 districts and boroughs in Surrey joined together to compete in a range of athletic and sporting activities from boccia - a game for those with disabilities - to netball in a bid to gain glory for their part of the county.
Surrey Heath's success in this competition continued and more than 200 competitors from the borough took part. There were gold medals for the boys hockey team, who have been previous recipients of the bronze and silver medals but for whom this was their first time as overall winners. After some hard work and tough matches, the boys overcame Elmbridge 1-0 in the final to take the title.
The girls under-nines football team also claimed the top spot, as did the Surrey Heath High Five netball team in a version of the game that sees five players - instead of seven - rotating positions to ensure equal involvement and physical benefit.
Excellent past results in athletics were maintained with a silver medal in this event as Surrey Heath's team was pipped by a strong Woking team. Bronze medals went to the borough's under-14s badminton side, who achieved success despite having a team member missing.
Judo is the only sport where individual medals are awarded and Surrey Heath competitors took two golds and two bronzes in the judo competition, continuing a run of great success in judo at this event.

Both the Mayor of Surrey Heath Cllr Alan Whittart and the portfolio for leisure Cllr Wynne Price attended the event and were greatly impressed by the standard of competition. Cllr Whittart said: "Surrey Youth Games has become a regular fixture in the council's diary and the fact that we have continued our success this year is very good news.
"It was also a pleasure to be able to enjoy the sporting achievements in such good weather and to note the positive effects on young people of taking part in competition. These go beyond the obviously lifestyle benefits or exercise - the skills and discipline that the youngsters learn in participating in Surrey Youth Games will stand them in good stead for the future."
