The Council's Executive has agreed to the principle of installing a multi-use games area (MUGA) on Heatherside Recreation Ground. The Executive did also resolve that before proceeding with any installation, nearby residents would be consulted.
The current proposals regarding the installation of a games area at the heatherside recreation Ground are:
1. The games area will consist of an area of 18 x 36 m with a hard surface and fencing around the perimeter. Download the plans to see how the installation would appear.
2. The pitch would be situated to the side of the number 3 football pitch and in front of the children's playground with a North - South orientation.
3. That the Council will maintain the pitch for the duration of its useful life.
4. That it will be paid for by the Safer Surrey Heath Partnership (which is a group of organisations including the County and Borough Councils, the Police Authority, the Fire Service and the Primary Care Trust).
5. That any proposals are furthered only in consultation with local residents.
Heatherside was selected as a suitable location as it is an area where young people have been congregating, and where on-going problems have been reported of ball games being played in inappropriate places. Research amongst teenagers in the area has shown that they would welcome and use such a facility, and it is hoped that for these reasons the project would help to deter anti-social behaviour in this area in the future.
The consultation period has now closed. For further information, please contact Arts and Leisure on 01276 707338 or email leisure.services@surreyheath.gov.uk
