The park won a design award on completion and has been much admired for its beauty and tranquillity.

Its unspoilt natural beauty and character continues to attract large numbers of visitors with opportunities for families with, woodland and lots of open space, picnic areas, two children's playgrounds, a trim trail, miniature railway and meadows. There is also football, rugby, cricket a pitch and putt course.

The Basingstoke canal runs along the eastern boundary and with lots of space, woodland, cafeteria, miniature railway and pitch & putt course.

Frimley Lodge park is a very attractive venue for everyone looking for quiet recreation or organised activity. There is a resident warden and the Council's contractors provide fulltime attendance.

Frimley Lodge Park has received a prestigious national award in recognition of being a conservation area of excellence.

It is the fifth time the park has received a Green Flag, the national standard for parks and open spaces, from the Civic Trust, and it had to meet strict criteria to earn it.

Grounds staff had to create a welcoming feel and provide a healthy, safe, secure and clean environment demonstrating a well - maintained open space.

The Civic Trust also looked at the environmental care of the park, such as what the management teams did with the waste and whether plants were treated with chemicals, and noted how the meadows have been kept as an area of conservation.

Image of the Green Flag AwardThe Green Flag was raised during a small ceremony attended by the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr. Pat Pearce, Ward Members and the cast of the Camberley Theatre's Christmas pantomime, Cinderella.

The borough's parks and countryside manager David Sanger thanked the staff and the resident warden at the lodge for making the park such a successful and popular place to visit.

He said "They make this possible. It's a lovely site, which helps. Because it's such an attractive site everybody who's involved in this has an enthusiasm for it. It's an aspiring site.

"It's the most popular park we've got. Sometimes in the hot weather, it's too popular but that's a nice problem to have.

"The feedback we get from the public is all positive. They all say what a fantastic place it is. A lady told me that one of the reasons why she and her husband moved to Mytchett was because they liked the park so much and wanted it on their doorstep".

The Civic Trust gave 538 parks a Green Flag. Next year the Council hopes to enter London Road Recreation Ground.

The park's facilities include canal side and woodland walks, soccer, rugby and cricket, pitch and putt golf course and two children's play areas. There is a pavilion with cafeteria and there are several picnic areas.
