Empty Homes

Empty HomesAt a time when the number of households looking for accommodation on local housing registers is growing, empty properties are at least a wasted resource. At worse they can fall into disrepair causing problems for neighbours and attracting anti-social behaviour.

The Council has identified a high number of empty properties and is working to address the issue of empty homes by:

  • Providing advice to owners of empty homes through the www.everyhomecounts.info website; Opens in a new window
  • Providing a reporting service for residents concerned about an empty home through the www.everyhomecounts.info;
  • Working with neighbouring authorities in Surrey and Hampshire to share best practice and training;
  • Targeting long term empty properties in the Borough to see what action is needed to bring them back into use.

The Council does not keep a register of empty properties and can not respond to individual requests for information on empty properties.

If you are interested in buying an empty property you can find advice on the Empty Homes Agency website.
