Walk More - Feel The Difference
'Walking the way to Health' Initiative (WHI) is an initiative of the British Heart Foundation and the Countryside Agency. It aims to get more people walking in their own communities, especially those who take little exercise or live in areas of poor health.
Did you know? Walking can...
- Make you feel good
- Give you more energy
- Help you sleep better
- Help you reduce stress
- Keep your heart 'strong'
- Reduce blood pressure

- Help to manage your weight
Why walk?
- It's the sure safe way to health and fitness
- It's a chance to meet people and make friends
- Almost everyone can do it
- You can do it anywhere, any time
- You don't need any equipment - apart from comfortable walking shoes
- There's very little risk of injury
- It doesn't hurt!
- You can start slowly and build up gently
- It's free and easy
Regular walking can improve your:
- Confidence
- Stamina
- Energy
- Weight control
- Life expectancy
It can reduce the risk of:
- Coronary heart disease
- Strokes
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Bowel cancer
- Alzheimer's disease
- Osteoporosis
- Arthritis
- Anxiety
- Stress
To get health benefits from walking, you only need to walk for 30 minutes, 5 days a week. If it suits you to break this down and do, say, 3 sessions of 10 minutes walking in a day, that's just as good.
WHI Step-O-Meter "Loan Pack" Trial
The Step-O-Meter, which comes with step-by-step instructions, will quickly give you an idea of how much walking you currently do and will help you set realistic personal target to walk more.
The Step-O-Meter counts every step you walk. It records the number of steps you have taken over the last 7 days. It also calculates the average number of steps you take each day. For more details please contact Mitch Counsell on 01242 533303.
