What Do We Do?
Food Safety within Surrey Heath is undertaken by a team of Environmental Health Professionals whose overall aim is to reduce the risk to the public from food borne infections.
The team seeks to ensure the safe production, preparation, distribution and supply of food within the 700 food premises in Surrey Heath.
The objectives of the team are to:
- Carry out inspections of food premises, for which the council is the enforcing authority and institute action as necessary in accordance with the Services Enforcement Policy
- Investigate complaints about food premises
- Provide food safety training services to local businesses
- Investigate cases of food poisoning and advise upon precautionary and control measures;
- Issue licences and monitor compliance with relevant conditions
- Sample food from local businesses and arrange for microbiological testing
- Develop "Home Authority" partnerships. This means working closely with local food businesses, which also have outlets outside or distribute outside the Borough
- Provide advice and assistance to businesses to help them comply with food safety legislation and maintain a high standard of food hygiene.
