Surrey Heath Flooding Advice

Unfortunately, flooding and drainage problems can be complicated, with responsibility of maintenance often falling to the land owners or adjacent land owners of the watercourse.

The following listing is not definitive as characteristics of each watercourse dictate the responsibility. In most cases, it should help direct you to the correct agency in an Emergency.

Flooding on or from the Highway (including road gullies and highway culverts)

In an Emergency, please have a good description of the location ready to enable a quicker response.

Any flooding on the Highway (including footpaths) should be reported to Surrey County Council Highways on 03456 009009 in order for appropriate safety measures to be taken.

If the road gullies are obstructed by surface debris (such as fallen leaves or litter)

In an Emergency, contact Surrey Heath Borough Council Environmental Health on 01276 707100
For non emergency, email environmental.health@surreyheath.gov.uk

If the road gullies are blocked with no visible debris.

In an Emergency, contact Surrey County Council Highways on 03456 009 009

If the watercourse by the roadside is flooding

In an Emergency, contact Surrey County Council Highways on 03456 009 009

Flooding from a watercourse (including Main River)

Main Rivers such as the Blackwater, Bourne, Millbourne, Windlebrook and Trulley Brook are maintained by the Environment Agency (EA).

If flooding occurs from a main river

In an Emergency, contact the Environment Agency's Floodline on 0800 807060

For non emergency, contact the EA general number 08708 506 506

If flooding occurs from non main river or unknown status flooding

In an Emergency, contact Surrey Heath Borough Council Land Drainage on 01276 707100
For non Emergency, email land.drainage@surreyheath.gov.uk

Flooding from Fields and Parks (including all open spaces)

For flooding on or from Leisure areas, Council maintained Parks and Open Spaces

In an Emergency, contact Surrey Heath Borough Council Leisure Services on 01276 707100

For flooding from any watercourse other than listed above

In an Emergency, contact Surrey Heath Borough Council Land Drainage on 01276 707100
For non Emergency, email land.drainage@surreyheath.gov.uk

Flooding from Mains Drainage / Public Sewerage systems

Flooding or surcharging from Manholes on adopted mains drainage (soil and surface water sewers) is usually the responsibility of Thames Water. Contact 08459 200 800

Flooding from Manholes in the road should also be reported to Surrey County Council Highways to ensure road safety is maintained. Contact 03456 009 009

Flooding from a Private Sewer or a Private (unadopted) Road

Flooding or surcharging from soil (foul) Manholes in private land or unadopted roads could have public safety issues which may need to be addressed.
