Improving energy efficiency provides benefits all round.
- It preserves finite natural resources,
- It achieves better air quality,
- It protects the planet, and
- It reduced fuel bills.
The energy used by the average home creates 7.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year and this can easily be reduced by up to a half by taking some energy efficiency improvement measures. In addition, it has been calculated that the heating bill of a fairly typical older house with basic insulation and heating controls is £65 less than an uninsulated three bedroom semi-detached house.
By completing a Home Energy Survey this will enable us to:
- Give estimates of your home energy efficiency, the cost of fuel, and carbon dioxide emissions, based on acceptable standards of heating;
- Show a breakdown of the typical energy losses from various parts of your house;
- Indicate whether your home is better or worse than the average;
- Identify and inform you of energy efficiency improvement measures specific to your home;
- Give an indication of the likely costs of the selected improvements and their payback period;
- Illustrate the potential saving in energy costs and carbon dioxide emissions by various improvement projects either singly or in combination.
It must be emphasised, however, that this exercise is intended to raise awareness of home energy efficiency. It will not produce a detailed energy audit of your home.
The advice is free and impartial, and all information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
As well as providing you with energy efficiency advice, the information will enable the Council to compile an energy profile of the residential accommodation in the Borough and, thereby, assist in the development of its strategy under the Home Energy Conservation Act 1995 for achieving a 30% improvement in energy efficiency over the next ten years.
