Tells you the plastic- a useful guide...

Identifying different types of plastics can be tricky at times.

Now that maragarine tubs, plastic trays and yoghurt pots can be recycled in Surrey Heath it is important to understand that different containers are made from different types of plastic.

The aim of this activity is to;

  • raise awareness of the different types of plastics
  • highlight the recycling symbols that can be found on plastic objects
  • explain what each recycling symbol means
  • identify common types of plastic (i.e. PET bottles)

How the activity works
This activity uses a selection of plastic items are collected in a large bin or bag. The items can either be distributed throughout the class or the activity can be done as a group exercise. A worksheet and a list of items can be downloaded by following the links below;

Homework...
Having learnt about the recycling symbols found on some plastic items, children are then able to search for items made from different types of plastics.

Currently, many Local Authorities are only able to collect plastic bottles. For Teachers at schools outside Surrey Heath there is the Look for the Logo activity
