Surrey Joint Municipal Waste Management
The Surrey Heath Municipal Waste management Strategy was adopted by Surrey Heath in September 2006.
This calls for the recycling or re-use of 40% of households waste by 2010 and 60% by 2025.
Traditionally our waste has been landfilled but this is no longer a viable option. Landfilling harms the environment by contributing towards climate change and is also increasingly expensive due to legislation and taxes introduced by the Government - charges that would ultimately affect council tax if no alternatives were found.
The Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy is a long-term solution for dealing with waste in Surrey, with a strong emphasis on reducing waste and increasing recycling rates.
