ToasterSince July 2007 all items that use mains electricity or have the capacity to do so, including battery powered items are now covered by the new Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE).

This means that these items should not be included in your household waste.

You have several options including:

  • Ask the retailer if they will take the product back
  • Take it down to your local community recycling centre

The community recycling centres in Surrey Heath at Wilton Road Opens in a new windowCamberley (near the junction of Park street and Frimley Road) and Swift Lane Opens in a new window Bagshot (access via A322) have special containers for small electrical items such as:

  • hair dryers
  • toasters
  • electric toothbrushes
  • microwave ovens
  • computer related accessories

These sites are run by Surrey County Council so if you have and issues relating to either of these sites please contact county directly on 01306 748300.
