Eco Schools LogoIt is important to learn about the environment
and schools are vital in this enlightenment

A number of schools in Surrey Heath have registered with The Eco-Schools Programme. This international scheme Opens in a new window set up to raise awareness of environmental issues. It covers aspects such as waste, recycling and energy conservation.

Each school that is registered for the programme is working towards their Green Flag which is a recognised Eco-label for environmental education and performance.

To read more about Eco-Schools you can view the UK Eco-Schools website Opens in a new window.

In 2006 a service was set up to collect recycling from every school in the borough, supported by classroom-based activites. This has already has a positive impact on reducing waste. It allows Surrey Heath Borough Council help the schools towards schools achieving their Eco Schools Green Flag through the recycling collections and the activities outlined above.

Many schools have been able to reduce the number of rubbish bins they have- good news for the environment and for school funds! Since the scheme was set up teachers, caretakers, pupils and parents have all been working very hard on their school recycling systems so..

it's time to say a great big thank you to everyone- keep up the good recycling!
