Since the purchase of the recycling vehicle using grants from DEFRA and Surrey County Council, regular collections of paper, cardboard and cans from blocks of flats, residential nursing homes and schools are opperating successfully.
This has proved to be a very popular service, collecting mixed paper and card including paper & magazines, junk mail, catalogues, directories, cardboard packaging, yellow pages, art paper, shredded paper (In plastic bags), books & envelopes from about 200 properties.
The service uses wheeled bins for the mixed paper & card and also includes aluminum & steel can collections from blocks of flats, recycling sites, care homes and schools. This makes recycling more accessible for residents that cannot easily use the home recycling collection.
Since the scheme started in 2007, everyone has made a huge effort to recycle their paper and cardboard. Making sure that boxes are flattened and polystyrene is removed has ensured that everyone in the scheme gets the most from this service. Thanks to everyone involved, this service is now running to capacity.
This collection service has also been a good opportunity for Surrey Heath to actively help schools recycle and to teach the next generation about the importance of recycling. To download the Heathscene article from Autumn 2007 use the link below.
Thank you and keep up the good recycling.
