Surrey Heath like many other Local Authorities accept plastic bottles for recycling. Plastic bottles are commonly made from PET (polyethylene terephthalate) or HDPE (high density polyethylene).
The small triangle, which can sometimes be found on the bottle or on the label, indicates which particular type of plastic that the object is made from. Unfortunately this is not present on all plastic objects but does provide a useful guide - where present!

Identifying different types of plastic for recycling can be difficult if you don't know what you are looking for and is often a hot topic of conversation. To try to meet the growing demand for better information, the following information resources have been created;
- Spring 2008 issue of Heathscene Opens in a new window -this article explains how to distinquish different plastics and answers some frequently asked questions.
- "Plastics! a rhyme to save time" Opens in a new window- this poem gives a light-hearted but informative overview of the numbers commonly found on plastic objects (the download contains 4 poems per page so that you can share it with 3 friends!)
