Recycling food and drinks cartons

Food and drinks cartons can be recycled at the following sites:

• Briars Centre, Lightwater
• Bisley recycling site
• Carwarden House Community School, Camberley
• Prior Avenue Car Park, Camberley

The recycling signs on the containers (pictured) describe cartons as "paper based liquid food and drink cartons" this includes cartons with or without a foil lining.

• Foil-lined cartons usually contain 'long life' products such as UHT milk or 'long life' fruit juice.
• Cartons that do not have a foil lining can be found in the chilled section and contain products such as fresh fruit juice, soup or milk.

Both types of carton can be recycled using this recycling scheme.

Before you recycle your carton please help us by ensuring that you squash your cartons. This important for a number of reasons;

• saves you trips to the recycling site
• helps to limit overflowing bins as each bin can contain more cartons
• this means that collections become more efficient

During the first 10 months (September- June) of the scheme, residents in Surrey Heath have successfully recycled about 5½ tonnes of cartons. This may not sound like much but cartons are relatively light, so 5½ tonnes equates to about 135 thousand units !

This is a significant volume diverted from landfill so keep up the good recycling and remember to squash your cartons before they go into the recycling bin!

It is intended that a new carton recycling point will be introduced to the recycling site at Chobham before Christmas. Its availability can be viewed using the recycling centre search facility.
