There are Warm Front grants available to private residents on means tested benefits. The Warm Front scheme is government funded to make your home warmer, more energy efficient and more secure.
- Grants up to - £2,700
- Heating Rebate - £300
- Surrey Heath Borough Council Energy - £1,400
- Surrey Heath Borough Council Repair - £5,000 including energy efficiency
To be eligible for the scheme you must be in receipt of a qualifying benefit and be a private sector resident (i.e. not Housing Association). The grant focus's on households with the greatest health risks. Older people, families with children under 16 and disabled people will be priority. If you do not receive a benefit but are aged 60 or over owning your own home or renting from a private landlord there is a heating rebate towards the cost of repairing or installing a heating system. Grants are available to assist with the costs of improving energy efficiency in the home. The type of works which, qualifies for grant assistance includes:
- Insulate the loft up to 200 mm depth where no insulation exists or improve existing loft insulation to bring up to 200 mm depth.
- Insulate the hot water cylinder with a jacket (80 mm)
- Insulate tanks in the roof space with suitable material 25-mm thick including a removable cover.
- Insulate all pipes in the loft including overflows, with insulating material 15 mm thick
- Draughtproof doors and windows to living and bedrooms being used.
- Provide ventilators at eaves level.
- Form a hatchway to roof space.
- Provide secondary double-glazing to bedrooms and living rooms being used regularly.
- Insulate exposed cavity walls.
- Replace defective boiler over 12 years old with condensing boiler.
- Replace old electric storage heaters with energy efficient ones.
- Insulate pipework between boiler and hot water tank.
- Provide control equipment for heating system.
- Provide reflector behind radiator.
- Provide shelves over radiators.
- Provide dual control immersion heater.
- Provide water heating controls (Programmer timer)
- Provide hot water thermostat.
- Replace conventional light fittings in kitchen with fitted low energy fluorescent strips.
To qualify for grant assistance an applicant must:
- Be aged 18 years or over on the date of application.
- Be an owner-occupier or a private tenant, or an occupant who occupies the dwelling under a right of exclusive occupation grant for his life or for a period of more than three years.
- Be on an income- related benefit:
- Guarantee Pension Credit
- Income Support
- Housing Benefit
- Working Families Tax Credit
- Council Tax Benefit
- Disabled Persons Tax Credit
- Income based job seekers allowance
- Have a power to carry out the work.
- Have lived in the dwelling for a period of 3 years prior to the application.
- Not been awarded a minor works grant by this Council within the last three years prior to application
We regret that a grant cannot be paid for work, which has started or completed prior to grant approval.
If you are not in receipt of the above benefits but you still require financial assistance to have this work carried out you may be eligible for a Home Improvement Loan.
