We provide excellent food hygiene training courses leading to nationally recognised qualifications from the Chartered Institute for Environmental Health (CIEH). These courses are extremely good value and being provided locally, they are very convenient for food handlers, or working in the Borough.
Food hygiene regulations require that food handlers are adequately trained and the "Industry Guide to Good Food Handling Practice" says:
"A food handler who prepares or handles high risk open food should be trained to at least level 2 standard." This can be achieved by sending staff on a formally accredited course, or in larger organisations in-house training may be used."
Two courses are available from the Environmental Health team:
CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering
This is a one-day course designed for all food handlers. The overall aim is to develop a level of understanding on the basic principals of food hygiene to enable them to improve standards and help prevent food poisoning. The syllabus for the course covers:
- Bacteriology.
- Food poisoning.
- Prevention of food poisoning and food contamination.
- Temperature control of food.
- Personal hygiene - basic rules and responsibilities.
- Cleaning and disinfection.
- Pest control.
- Premises and equipment.
- Hazard analysis.
- Legal obligations.
All courses run between 9am and 5.00pm and in order to avoid disappointment we recommended that you make your booking at least two weeks prior to the date of the course. The cost of the course is £60 up to April 2009. If you have several people who require training then we can arrange to run a course at your premises. To receive a booking form contact Tel: 01276 707346. Please note that courses will run subject to a minimum of 6 bookings. If you cancel then you will be offered a place on the next available course. If this is not acceptable, then a £10 administration fee will be charged and the remainder of your money refunded.
CIEH Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety and Catering
This course deals with food hygiene in more detail and covers management and systems. The course is run over six weeks involving one four hour session per week. For further details or to make a booking please contact the Food Safety Team on 01276 707359. This course is provided when there is sufficient demand.
School and Group Talks
Regular talks and presentations are given on request to interested schools, groups, businesses and associations. The service can be adapted to meet the needs of the particular audience.
