OFSTED Early Years Directorate
OFSTED (Office for Standards in Education Opens in a new window) is the government department that inspects schools throughout England.
In September 2001, responsibility for regulation and inspection of providers of daycare for under 8's was transferred from Local Authorities to OFSTED Early Years Directorate.
OFSTED now carry out registration and inspection of day nurseries, sessional groups, crèches, out of school facilities and childminders for children under 8 years of age.
Surrey Children's Information Service
Surrey County council runs the Surrey Children's Information Service Opens in a new window which provides details of registered pre-schools, day nurseries and crèches within the Surrey area. The Children's Information Service also provides free information to parents, carers and people working with children.
