Visitors from Sucy-en-Brie 2008

The Mayor of Surrey Heath and president Jean-Claude KraemerOn Saturday 20th September, Councillor Alan Whittart, Mayor of Surrey Heath, held a reception for a group of visitors from the French twin town of Sucy-en-Brie at the Surrey Heath Council Offices in Knoll Road, Camberley.

The Group, "Les Baladins du Val de Marne" was here as guests of Windlesham Drama Group and had come to perform "A Flea in her Ear" by Georges Feydeau at the Windlesham Club and Theatre. The Mayor, after welcoming the visitors, presented the groups president Jean-Claude Kraemer with a crystal paperweight bearing the Surrey Heath coat of arms to mark their visit.

It was the group's fourth visit to Surrey Heath and Councillor Whittart said how pleased he was that local groups continue to maintain links with our friends from across the channel.

After thanking the Mayor for his kindness and hospitality, he formally invited the Windlesham Drama Group to perform in Sucy in 2009.

After the reception, the groups were invited into the Council Chamber for photographs.

That evening the mayor joined the audience at Windlesham Club and Theatre for a colourful and energetic performance of this extremely funny play. After the show he thanked the cast on providing such an entertaining evening.

The following day, after dismantling and loading away the scenery, the group was treated to a whistle stop tour of some of the London sights on an old Route master London bus, before being taken to St Pancras for their return journey.
