The Council adopted a petitions scheme in 2010. The scheme sets out how the council will respond to paper and electronic petitions it receives. The response to a petition will depend on the number of signatures it receives.

Listed below are the Council's response criteria

  • Less than 100 - A response from the relevant officer
  • 100 - 749 - A response from the relevant member of the Executive
  • 750 - 3,499 - Referred to the Executive
  • 3500 or more - Debated at a meeting of the Full Council

If the petition requests that a senior officer provide evidence at a relevant Scrutiny Committee it must achieve a minimum of 1,500 signatures.

The council will accept electronic petitions which are submitted through its e-petition facility. To create, submit or sign an e-petition please use the link below:

How it works
You can view and sign any current petitions, and see our response to any completed petitions.

All petitions that are submitted to this website will be accepted, as long as they are in accordance with our terms and conditions. The aim is to enable as many people as possible to make their views known.

To ensure transparency, any petition that cannot be accepted will be listed, along with the reasons why.

You can submit paper petitions to us at the following address:
