Electoral Register Information

Contact Us

The Council's next scheduled elections are the Borough and Parish elections in May 2011. The next General Election is on 6th May 2010.

This Council is responsible for the administration of all public elections held within the Borough of Surrey Heath, covering referendums, local, parish, parliamentary and European parliamentary elections.

For registration and electoral queries relating to areas outside of the Borough of Surrey Heath, please contact the Electoral Registration Officer at your local Council directly.

The Electoral Registration Office
To find out more about electoral registration and elections, and how you can ensure that you have a voice, please telephone the office on 01276 707165 or email vote@surreyheath.gov.uk.

Rolling Registration And The Register Of Electors
You can only vote in elections if your name is on the register of electors. We update the register every autumn but can add names throughout the year.  Please do not assume automatic inclusion on the Register of Electors because you pay Council Tax.

To apply to have your name included simply complete a Voter Application form available from the Electoral Registration Office or you can print the form from this Web page. When you send us your form we will add you to our list of new applications. Provided there are no objections, your name will be added to the Notice of Alterations, usually within 2 to 6 weeks of receiving your completed form. We will write and tell you when your application is allowed.

You must sign your own form - someone else cannot do it for you. The signature must be 'genuine' - unfortunately we cannot accept an electronic signature at the current time.

Annual canvass of electors
Each year, from mid-August until mid-November, the annual canvass will take place. Every household will receive a form to complete. During this period, no Notice of Alteration will be published.

The revised register will then be published at the beginning of December, and rolling registration will recommence thereafter.

If you discover that you are not registered to vote for a particular election, the deadline for registration is 5pm, 11 working days before the day of poll.
