The deadline for applying for a postal vote for the General Election on 8 June is 5pm on Tuesday 23 May.

Postal Voter Application

Anyone who wants to vote by post can do so, without stating why.

To vote by post all you have to do is complete an Application to Vote by Post form in full and return it to the Council. Please click the Voters Postal Application form at the top of this page.

You must sign your own form - someone else can not do it for you. The signature must be 'genuine' - unfortunately we cannot accept an electronic signature at the current time. 2006 Absent Voting regulations require a signature and a date of birth to be provided for the postal application to be accepted. Furthermore, a reason will need to be stated if you require the ballot papers to be sent to an address other than the one that you are registered to vote at.

If you have access to a printer and scanner, you can print the form from the download section at the top of this page, complete and sign it and then scan and e-mail it back to us at vote@surreyheath.gov.uk and we will also accept faxed forms. However, we can only accept scanned or faxed documents provided that the clarity upon receipt is excellent (particularly that of the signature).

If you wish to cancel your postal vote, or make an amendment to your existing postal details you are able to do this up to 11 working days before an election. All of these details will be on the postal poll card you will receive prior to the election.

When you send us your form, we will acknowledge your application once it has been processed.

During an election period, there are set dates by which applications to vote by post must be received. Because of these dates, you may not be able to vote by post if your application is received too late - if this is the case, you will still be able to vote in person at your polling station.

It is advisable that if you think you may need a postal vote, apply as soon as possible!

Receiving Your Postal Vote
The Law currently enables us to send out postal votes 10 working days before an election, however, we cannot guarantee that this will be the case. If you are abroad, or working away or on holiday prior to an election a postal vote may not be suitable for you as we cannot guarantee that you will receive your voting papers on time.  We recommend in this case that you apply for a proxy vote.

Postal votes must be received by the Returning Officer by the close of poll to be counted. If necessary, you are able to drop your postal ballot papers into your polling station on the day of poll, or the Council Offices up until 10pm on the day of the election.
