Alan has lived in Surrey Heath since 1973, moving to Frimley Green in 1978. He is married to Jan and has two grown up daughters and two grandchildren.
Alan was first elected to the Frimley Green Ward in 1993 and has represented the Ward on Surrey Heath Borough Council ever since.
In May 2008 Alan was elected into the role as Mayor of Surrey Heath by his fellow councillors.

For the municipal year, 2011-12, Alan will be serving on the Leisure & Environment Scrutiny Committee, External Partnerships Committee & Appointments Committee.
Substitute for the following: Community Scrutiny Committee, Planning Applications Committee, Licensing Committee, Policy & Audit Scrutiny Committee, Selection Committee, Waste Contract Consultative Group, Governance Working Group, Equality Working Group and Finance & Asset Management Group.
Alan will also be serving on the Camberley Theatre Working Group, Surrey Heath Sports Council & Surrey Heath Youth Focus.
Aside from Council matters, Alan continues to work for Surrey County Council as an Education Welfare Officer in Surrey Heath and has done so since 1993. Previously he served in the London Fire Brigade for 25 years until an on duty injury caused him to retire prematurely. Alan is also President of 1st Frimley Green & Mytchett Scout Group.
Alan is always available to assist residents with their Council related concerns.
