Traffic Lights - For Best Value Performance Indicators The Council monitors its performance against Statutory Performance Indicators - National Performance Indicators (PIs). This has enabled active performance management of service performance and officers are able to take action if the service is below target.

In addition, the Council has developed a suite of Local Performance and Activity Indicators (indicators for information without a target), which have been collected alongside the statutory indicators. Local performance indicators are a useful tool, allowing the Council to measure achievement towards local priorities where National performance indicators may not reflect these adequately. The performance indicator spreadsheet attached details the National and Local Performance and Activity Indicators outturn for the last two financial years, the out-turn for 2009/10 will be available in July.

A traffic light system has been introduced to further identify the status of particular indicators. Indicators coloured red show a current significant variance from target, with corrective action needed. Indicators coloured amber show a slight variance from target and require monitoring. Green next to an indicator denotes 'on target or above target'. The 'Comment' box on the spreadsheet clarifies the position of each indicator.

The performance indicators are checked and accurate to the best of our knowledge.
