Procurement is defined as the purchase or lease of good, works and services for use by the Council to provide services in an effective, efficient and economic manner

Electronic procurement or e-procurement not only relates to the advertising and tendering of contracts but also to the invoicing and payment of goods and services.

The Council is already pays most of its invoices electronically through BACS and a growing proportion of goods are ordered on line. Current contracts and contract opportunities are being registered on the South East Centre of Excellence Contract Store, a web based tool, to enable suppliers to see what opportunities are available.

In the future the Council is committed to make more use of electronic services such as e-tendering to ensure that best value is obtained for all the goods and services it uses.
