The Atrium Camberley will include a range of new shops, leisure facilities and apartments on the 7 acre site. The Atrium Camberley is situated west of The Main Shopping Centre and Park Street, Camberley town centre. It will also provide around 683 new car parking spaces.
The Atrium - which derives its name from the light, glass focal space at the centre of the development - will offer 217 design-led and well-priced apartments. The selection of one and two bedroom luxury apartments will be located at three areas, which are called Centro, Aspect and Courtyard. These apartments went on sales in January 2007. The 17 new shops will face directly onto Park Street, opposite Main Square. By providing units that are larger than those on offer in the town already, the scheme will bring more retailers into the town, extending the choice available to shoppers and attracting more people back into Camberley. Park Street itself will be pedestrianised, with new paving, benches and trees.
All the leisure facilities will surround this atrium, including a 9 screen cinema, bowling, health and fitness club, cafés and restaurants, as well as lift and escalator access to and from the car park. The atrium area will be family-orientated and there will be no dedicated pubs or bars.
The scheme has attracted a great deal of interest from new retailers looking to take space in Camberley, as well as cinema and bowling operators. The developer expects to begin announcing some of the first names for the scheme over the coming months.
Construction of The Atrium shopping, leisure and residential development west of Park Street in the town centre is gathering pace.
The first of the new residential areas, 'Centro', located between Southern Road and the new Upper Charles Street, is well underway and due to be completed in autumn this year.

Public Art
The council has agreed the design of the main artwork for Park Street and has commissioned artist Rick Kirby to create it during the Spring 2008. The art takes the form of three figures erected high on a triangular shaft. The materials used will be stainless steel. The council will also be considering Herald features

Background
Plans for 'The Atrium' were formally ratified by Surrey Heath Borough Council on 12th December 2005 following an earlier resolution to grant consent, so that work can begin on these exciting mixed-use proposals that are set to change the face of Camberley. Work started on site in September 2006.
City Car Club
The developers have introduced a car club that will benefit the community, offering 24 hour, on demand access to pooled cars without the expense of full time ownership. City Car Clubs will open to new and existing local residents, businesses and community groups, helping to keep the overall numbers of cars off the road, contribute to sustainable transport plans and increase the use of public transport.
Visit the www.citycarclub.co.uk for further information about the City Car Club in operation in Firwood Drive.
