Changes to the procedure for complaints against councillors.
From 8th May 2008, the responsibility for considering complaints made against councillors that they may have breached the Code of Conduct which they have undertaken to observe, is moving to the Standards Committees of local authorities.
What this means to you
After 8th May 2008, if you wish to complain about the conduct of a councillor of Surrey Heath Borough Council, you must submit your complaint in writing to:
Glen Egan
Monitoring Officer
Surrey Heath Borough Council
Surrey Heath House
Knoll Road
Camberley
Surrey
GU15 3HD
Email: glen.egan@surreyheath.gov.uk
The Monitoring Officer, on receipt of your complaint, will refer it to the relevant Sub-Committee of the Standards Committee for consideration.
Please note that the Standards Committee, and any Sub-Committees which it may appoint, can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of councillors. It will not deal with complaints in relation to matters which are not covered by the Code of Conduct. If you make a complaint to the Monitoring Officer, it must be about why you believe that a councillor has failed to observe the requirements of the Code of Conduct.
