Camberley Main SquareAn innovative scheme to share information about known criminals and criminal activities is being set up in Camberley under a partnership between Surrey Heath Borough Council, Surrey Police, Main Square Shopping Centre and local retailers. The Camberley Retail Crime Initiative (CRCI) also has the support of Local secondary schools, the Royal Military Police, Sainsbury's Watchmoor Park, Marks & Spencer and Tesco at the Meadows, Waitrose Frimley, South West Trains and Surrey Heath Chamber of Commerce.

The scheme aims to assist in the prevention and detection of crime, by reducing the opportunity to commit crime and the incidence of anti-social behaviour. The scheme works by gathering, collating and exchanging information between partners and members within the scheme area. This information includes the sharing of photographs of know active criminals as well as written information.

CRCI is being registered and operated under the Data Protection Act 1998 to ensure that any information is legally collected and will also be eligible in the case of prosecutions.

The CRCI aims to assist the local secondary schools to reduce truancy by using the scheme members to help identify children found in the scheme area who should otherwise be in school.
