Domestics Abuse is a crime and is unacceptable in our community.
First Steps
Taking the decision to leave an abusive situation can be difficult, you may have worries about your children, where you will live or if you will have enough money. Even if you have not yet made this decision there are steps you can take to plan ahead so that you are able to protect yourself and your children and make things easier if you have to leave in an emergency. Making these plans can help you to feel more in control of your situation.
You could:
- Identify somewhere you can quickly and safely use a telephone, such as a trusted friend, relative or neighbour
- Carry a list of emergency contact numbers such as Police, refuges, friends and relatives
- Keep important documents (passports, birth certificates, driving license, bank account details, credit cards, court order or legal papers) and essential medication together in a safe and accessible place to take should you leave
