Hostels and Night Shelters

There are no hostels or night shelters in Surrey Heath. The following schemes are in surrounding boroughs and may be able to assist you.

Step by Step	Step by Step (Emmaus House) has 11 beds, providing 13 week placements for 16-25 year olds. They are able to provide support and assistance with securing permanent accommodation. Provided that the client is eligible, the placements are funded by Housing Benefit with the client paying a contribution of £12.00 per week (£7.00 of this is a food charge, £5.00 is a residents charge.) There is a waiting list of approximately two weeks but this can vary according to demand. Where possible, Emmaus House aims to accommodate both men and women. Clients can refer themselves or be referred by another agency. Phones will not be staffed between midnight and 8am. Emmaus House also has one 'night stop' bed for use in emergency situations. Cyrenians Hostel	Cyrenians offers short term supported housing for men over the age of 18. They have 11 beds which are accessible by referral from a professional agency only. They will receive telephone enquiries between 9am - 6pm.	18 Walnut Tree Close, Guildford, Surrey 01483 560762

Mulberry House	Mulberry House provides beds for up to 15 women aged 16 - 35. The accommodation has shared facilities and is self-catering, and can provide support and assistance with securing further accommodation. If the resident is in receipt of full Housing Benefit the cost to the resident is approximately £8.75. Entry is by referral only, but self-referral is accepted. No. 5 Project	The No.5 Project is an emergency accommodation night shelter with beds available for 14 men and 2 women. Residents must be 18 years old or over and eligible for Housing Benefit. Residents are also required to make a contribution of approximately £7.00 per week. This includes breakfast and an evening meal, hot and cold drinks, access to communal facilities, and assistance with securing long-term accommodation. The Crescent	The Crescent provides supported housing for 14 people aged 18-30 years. Training in areas such as literacy, IT and life skills can be provided for residents aged 18-25 through the Life Skills Programme run by Surrey Care Trust with which Surrey Community Development Trust (SCDT) works in partnership. Referrals to the Crescent can be made by Surrey Social Services Teams, Leaving Care Teams, Youth Offending Teams, Borough Councils or clients can self refer. The York Road Project	The York Road Project offers 11 emergency beds for both men and women aged 18 and over. The cost varies from approx £1.00 - £7.00 per night depending on Housing Benefit payments. The night shelter can be accessed without a referral (e.g. the Council) and accommodation is usually provided for 21 days although this is flexible. The York Road Project also offers a drop-in service and café for people who are homeless, unemployed or on a low income - this operates Monday - Friday from 11am-2pm.	1 York Road, Woking, Surrey 01483 728739

Y Centre	The YMCA has 120 beds available to men or women aged between 18 - 30. Referral is through Guildford Borough Council and room rates vary depending on circumstance. The YMCA is open for telephone enquiries between 8am - 6pm.	YMCA, Bridge Street, Guildford, Surrey 01483 532555

Vaughn House	Vaughan House provides accommodation for 18-65 year olds and has 45 beds. The beds are divided into flats - one flat is specifically for women while the others are open to men and women. The accommodation is offered on a short term basis, clients will be re-housed in move-on accommodation after an agreed amount of time and will be assisted in being resettled. Entry into Vaughan House is by referral but self-referral is accepted. Where clients are eligible, Housing Benefit pays the majority of the costs, however clients must make a contribution of approx. £25.00 per week. This includes all food and utilities. Surrey Women's Aid	Surrey Women's Aid provides emergency support and accommodation for women fleeing domestic violence. They have a limited number of beds available for approximately £8 - £11 per week, if the resident is in receipt of full benefit.	01483 776822 (24 hours)

Crawley Open House (Riverside House)	Crawley Open House has 24 beds and can accommodate men, women, couples and pets. It operates on a short stay basis of around 6 weeks although this can vary according to circumstance. Clients can access this service directly and beds are allocated on a first come first served basis. Clients must be eligible for housing benefit as this will pay the bulk of the rent, residents make a contribution of £2.50 per night if under 25 and £3.50 per night if over 25. This includes three meals a day and access to a medical centre and day centre. Crawley Open House also offers advice, advocacy and support on a comprehensive range of issues. Leatherhead Night Hostel	Leatherhead Night Hostel provides accommodation for up to eight men and four women, or approximately six weeks. This is a direct access service so clients can present themselves either by telephoning one of the above numbers or dropping in. The hostel also incorporates a drop-in centre called Pitt Stop, which operates on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11am - 4pm where clients can receive a cooked meal, snacks, hot and cold drinks and advice.	3 Church Road, Leatherhead, Surrey 01372 363003 (11am-4pm), 01372 376508 (6pm-11pm)

Winchester Churches' Night Shelter	Winchester Churches' Night Shelter provides accommodation for homeless men and women 16+ years old. It operates on a short-term basis with a maximum stay of 28 days. Guests are expected to contribute £2.00 a night, depending on age and whether or not there is an entitlement to Housing Benefit. Foyer Youth Hostel	Foyer Youth Hostel offers emergency and temporary accommodation. They can also offer permanent accommodation. Placement is by referral only from Slough Borough Council and a local connection to the Slough area is required.	52 Stoke Road Slough Berkshire 01753 606799
