Homelessness Strategy
The original Homelessness Strategy was based round 9 key objectives developed through the Review process, listening to stakeholders and customers and reflecting national targets. These remain the core objectives as we take this work forward and are:
1. To improve awareness of advice and support services, and raise the profile of homelessness issues
2. To improve delivery of the Council's statutory functions in respect of homelessness
3. To prevent homelessness and increase the choices available to those who are or may become homeless
4. To reduce levels of homelessness against its main causes
5. To ensure there is sufficient accommodation for those who are or may become homeless, including reducing bed and breakfast and inappropriate temporary accommodation
6. To ensure there is support for homeless households so they can maintain their accommodation and prevent repeat homelessness
7. To consolidate current joint working and build further active and equal partnerships
8. To hear homeless households
9. To continue to build a picture of homelessness, housing need and the demand for services in the Borough to be able to respond effectively.
This Strategy is set out in sections addressing the needs of various client groups, causes of homelessness and other issues to allow ease of reference for those with a specific interest, and to allow reference back to the original Review and Strategy. Each section provides the evidence of where we are now from the review, identifies what we have achieved, recognises gaps in the services provided and recommends future actions.
The Homelessness Strategy 2008 - 2013 was adoped by the Executive on the 8th July
