North West Surrey Extra Care strategy Opens in a new window
Against a background of increasing life expectancy, with the accompanying needs and aspirations of a growing older population, the Council has been working with Woking Borough Council, Surrey County Council, housing providers and the voluntary sector to consider how the housing and support needs of older people can be addressed.
One option that is being developed is 'extra care'.
Extra care is based round people having their own self-contained secure accommodation with flexible 24 hour care and support being provided to their homes. The accommodation can be owned, rented, leasehold or shared ownership and as well as accommodation also features social, leisure and health facilities that can benefit the whole community.
