The Economic Development Strategy has its roots in the recent economic downturn which, according to the Office of National Statistics has seen the UK's national debt spiral to £4 trillion; £65,000 for every man, woman and child in the country. The Borough Council took the decision to increase strategic and operational support to the local business community in an effort to play its part in alleviating the effects of the downturn and help the area build again for the future.
The result is this Economic Development Strategy and accompanying Action Plans designed to help stimulate growth and inward investment, influence vital infrastructure improvements and work with other partners to help improve the skills base employers need.
The document focuses on three distinct areas:
1. Camberley Town Centre
2. Local Economic Partnerships (LEP)
3. "Open for Business" - The Council's role in attracting and developing business in Surrey Heath
