Caravan and Camping Site Licence and Advice

EUGO Logo - click on this image to link to the multi language gateway Opens in a new windowFind out if you need a Caravan and Camping Site Licence, and how to apply.

How do I apply?
The application must be accompanied by a site plan at 1:500 scale showing the layout of roads, caravans and facilities.

Are there inspections/assessments?
Once you application has been received, we will contact you and arrange to visit the proposed caravan site. Once the licence is issued, we will inspect the site at least once a year to ensure that the conditions of the licence are being met.

What happens next?
If planning permission has already been granted, we must issue the site licence within two months of receiving the application, or ask for any further information we need.

If I don't hear from you for 8 weeks, can I assume it's been granted ("tacit consent")?

No. It is in the public's interest that we process your application before we can grant it. If you have not heard from us within a reasonable period, please contact us on the details on the right hand side of the page.

If I'm turned down, how do I appeal?
Firstly, please contact us to see if we can resolve the issue.

If you want to appeal about the refusal of a licence, a condition attached to a licence, or changes to the conditions, you can do so by appealing to the Magistrates' Court within 28 days of receiving your notification letter from us.

How long does the licence last, and what's the renewal procedure?
The licence lasts for an indefinite period, unless the planning permission for site expires. In this situation, the licence would expire when the planning permission expires.

We may alter, cancel or make new conditions at any time, we will inform you of this, and give you the chance to challenge any decisions.

How do I tell you about changes of circumstance?
If you own a caravan or camping site, you should already have a licence but you should check that your name, the site name and address is correct and up to date. You should also check that the licence corresponds with your planning permission. If not, you should apply online changes in circumstance for camping and caravan licences Opens in a new window.

If you have recently become a caravan or camping site owner, licences are transferable to a new occupier, but we will need to give consent for the transfer.

If you are looking into becoming a site owner, you or your legal advisor should check that all the land that is to be used for caravans has planning permission and that the details correspond with the site licence. If you want to change the use of the land to a permanent caravan site, you must have planning permission before we can issue a licence.

Consumer Complaint
If you have a complaint against a trader, we would advise you first to contact the trader - preferably by letter (with proof of delivery). If that has not worked and you are in the UK, Consumer Direct Opens in a new window will give you advice. If you outside the UK, contact the UK European Consumer Centre Opens in a new window

If you have concerns about a caravan site, please contact our Environmental Health team - see the details on the right hand side of the page.

Where can I go for further information?
Please contact our Planning, Development & Homes team using the contact details on the right hand side of the page.
